The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
Definitely on the opposite end of the world on this one. For me, the
number one thing is that the program is maintainable. The fact this it
takes me extra 2/tenths of a second to use an SQL statement vs. making
a
program maintainable, I will take maintainability every time.
Amen to that!
We've got one small spot where we've sacrificed maintainability for
performance, and that's in the core of our ORM tool where we may spin
through specific lines of code millions of times a day. Those are
hyper-optimized, and _very_ well commented! EVERYTHING else is about
sacrificing speed to gain maintainability.
This is especially true when you look 5, 10, 15 years out. The stuff
that performs poorly today will perform better then, simply because the
machines w/be faster. But the stuff that's hard to maintain today will
only be harder to maintain then, because no one will remember how it
works, or why it was done that way. :)
