I've had to support multiple releases at the same time. Some on both
sides of the file changes done by OS upgrades. That was one of the main
driving forces that led me to stop using system supplied output files and
start using APIs to get lists of object descriptions.

And, I've written bolts on marketing applications to BPCS that had to get
information from both BPCS 2.1 and 405CD on the same platform at the same
time. For that application we used SQL, even for single row retrieves.
