The thing about the MR logic cycle is that it works, and works VERY well.
Invariably, when I see code where somebody has tried to do the same thing
themselves using full procedural files, it is always more convoluted and you
have to study the code to see if in fact it does what it claims to do.
That's right - it's inherently error prone. An earlier poster said
that anyone could easily code cycle logic using structured opcodes but
in real life I have seen errors in such programs many times.
An argument for using structured programming techniques over spaghetti
code is it simplifies the task of making the program verifiably
correct. Comparing structured procedural code with cycle code when
dealing with matching records and level breaks, this is not
necessarily the case. There are of course other valid arguments for
preferring structured procedural code to the cycle.
