so his example is irrelevant to what I'm saying.

I guess I don't see comparing subfields of different instances as
special functionality, just something that should be easy to do.

I'm not saying it's "special", I'm saying it's a function that's
available with an array data structure and not with a MODS. So if you
want to do that, use the array data structure.

I just started writing a new program today with a whole bunch of data
structures, each of which has a whole bunch of arrays. I don't need
to compare fields, but I need to be able to easily add together
specific elements of various arrays within specific occurrences of
various data structures, so I used array data structures.

Array data structures have definite benefits, and I use them when
those benefits come into play. But when there's no particular need
for an array data structure, I still prefer the plain ol' MODS.

On the whole, I'm not suggesting that MODS are bad, or that they should
never be used.

You quoted Jacobus' statement that MODS should be deprecated and
seemed to be agreeing with it. I strongly disagree with deprecating
MODS.
