It's often used to contain multiple entries of like information. For instance:

D MyMods DS Occur(10)
D Name 20
D Addr 30
D City 20

Then, I can do this to load the MODS, perhaps from file input.

/Free
For I = 1 to 10;
%Occur(MyMods) = I;
Name = InName;
Addr = InAddr;
City = InCity;
EndFor;

Then I can process the entries in a loop.
