FWIW - V5R4 here too, all latest PTFs, and the FETCH is not allowed in the
Subselect.

Although I do not see a way to do this in a single statement, you can
definitely do it in two. No need to write a program or even a function.

Step one, do a simple select for the RRNs of the first 1500 rows only - to
an outfile.
Step two, do your update with a simple subselect on the outfile from Step
One. No Fetch limit needed because the outfile only has 1500 records.
