Charles, the program in question is an OPM RPG IV program.
I'm unaware of
an alternate way to define the data area data structure other
than to use
"UDS".

Buzz,

There's an implicit IN *LOCK done by the cycle, along with an
implicit OUT,
on a UDS.

To prevent, remove the U and use the DTAARA keyword on the define.
