Hi Alan,
Within RPGILE you can now have long field names, for example
d Extremelylongfieldname...
d 1024
This feature was released in V3R7, which came out in November of 1996.
We've had this feature for 11 years now.
how do you utilize these in an o-spec?
You don't. You can't use it in legacy areas of the language (I specs,
O-specs or factor1/factor2/result-style C specs. It's fully supported
in extended-factor 2 C specs, free-format calcs, P-specs and D-specs,
however.
I love this long variable name feature. I was REALLY frustrated with
the field name lengths in V3R2, and was very grateful to have the longer
ones in V3R7. Even now, 11 years later, I can remember how excited I
was to finally let go of that awful 10 character limit.
