Why not take the 15 minutes to write the matching
record program that suits this situation rather than
spend several hours figuring out all the possible way
to make another less suited alternative work? If I
only had a dollar for each matching record program I
wrote on the System/3 I could be retired by now.

RTVQMQRY does not work nicely with type 2 or 3 query
definitions joins - it only returns inner joins for
both of those.

Hello, Terri:

Query/400 has:

Type of join . . . . . . . . _ 1=Matched
records
2=Matched records with primary
file
3=Unmatched records with primary
file

So, if you have Query/400 (WRKQRY) and are
familiar with it, this is
pretty easy to do.

And you can then use RTVQMQRY to retrieve the SQL
equivalent from the
*QRYDFN object to see (roughly) how to do the same
thing in SQL.

(Unless you really wanted to write a program to do
this.)

Cheers,

Mark

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a 'modern' way of
doing matching
records. MR seems to be the way to write the
program I am designing, but
it has been years since I did one. I am building
two work files, and need
to print any differences, or if there are any
missing in either file. Just
wondering if there was a better way.
