My newbie question: I am trying to get the rust off my Free
Format skills, I work in LANSA mostly, I want to rename a
field in free. I see in the Redbooks how RENAME is used for
the record format and then a Data Structure is created with
the new record format name and the new field name listed there.

Hi Sharon!

Is the idea that you want to use an externally described file and rename the
field coming in? And is the reason because of a collision with another
field? If so, you might want to consider using a prefix, which will add a
prefix to the field name of every field in the file.

If that's a little overboard for you, though, the old-fashioned method of
adding an I-spec for the record format and another I-spec to perform the
field rename for a single field is also still perfectly valid.

The data structure method works just as well.
