Many of the data structures for APIs are contained in source file QSYSINC/QRPGLESRC - albeit kind of ugly as to names - they are generated using a tool that Bruce Vining, formerly of IBM, wrote. You CAN use /copy with them, but there are often extra things you need to do. But QDCRDEVD was pretty plain vanilla, as I recall.

You will want a nice prototype, too - I suggest googling for "qdcrdevd prototype" - several of the list members have published their efforts, to the benefit of us all.

Finally, if you've not done so, take a look at the stuff under Programming->APIs at InfoCenter - there're some very important bits about the whole underlying concepts and structure.
