I have just been working on some RPGIII progams, there are still loads of
them scattered around the system and even though I am a newcomer to free
format (this last three months really) all new code written here has to be
in free format, I found it so difficult to squeeze in the stuff that I
used to have no problem with, I also had to look up a few things (memory
span of a goldfish). After struggling a bit it was decided that I should
convert the programs anyway because of using some new files with long
field names.
After being a bit "iffy" with free format for quite a while I have to say
I am like a smoker who has quit and will now bang on about the benefits of
FF to any who will listen.

With the outsourcing thing I find that it covers the whole spectrum from
excellent to very bad (as it does all over I suppose) the thing I also
find incredible is that companies (accountants) only seem to look to the
end of the current quarter or possibly financial year and see how much
money they can save sending this and that to outsourcing. They don't seem
to look at the probability of extra costs incurred fixing things done by
mediocre outsourcing support. I think there are many examples to be seen
where this has been the case. And BEFORE anyone jumps on me, I am not
saying all outsource is mediocre, some is really bad. ;-)

Several have answered with ILE IV solutions - he is working in RPG III

I noticed that after I posted - I still find it hard to believe that
anyone
is writing new code in RPG III.

What is particularly odd is that this appears to be an outsourcing
situation. Why on earth would you outsource (to people who apparently
don't
know the language) and have the new code written in a language obsolete
for
12 years. Sigh....

See you at Summit Vern.
