Just curious as to why the data structure StructArray
length is 32 instead of 30 like a standalone data structure?
all the fields are aligned optimally as far as I can tell.

The answer is that pointers are aligned on a 16 byte boundary, and so
following the 10a field there is actually a 2 character padding zone and
that's where your 32 comes from. Had you been able to use the DS array
approach, although the individual entries would have shown up as 30 bytes in
length, they too would have been 16 byte aligned and so the storage
occupancy would have been identical.
