problem
Hi Åke
we have the same problem where we can get non-displayable characters from
orders sent from other countries.
Our work-around was recognizing which countries could give us this
and have a manual intervention to verify the data.appreciated.
However I have come across the following which I've made note of.
The one thing that caught mi eye was the response from Azron.
I just need the time to see if I can utilize this.
Unfortunately, just like money, I don't seem to have enough of it.

We transfer files from system-I to other servers (mainly data
warehouse) using an mq-series based tool "pm4data". Problems occur
when alphabetic fields in the file contain "non-standard" characters
like "E" with caret and others. In this case pm4data fills the
entire record with "@" signs and the receiver side app blows up.
We have tried an approach where we filter out the "illegal"
characters we have found but there always seem to be more. The input
data is sent from some 40 countries which seems to add to the problem.
Also so far we have found no documentation from Metastorm (pm4data
vendor) on which hex-codes they accept. If such a table could be
found it would be of immense help.
Also any ideas on how to solve this problem would be greatly
