result set. Do I need to use CURSOR logic (declare , open, fetch, close)

to get the values into my variables as shown. Or, is there another way
(VALUES INTO, etc.). I ask because it seems that using the CURSOR logic

is very expensive. I need to execute this code several thousand times.
