I'm looking for the easiest way to parse one XML file to multiple
physical files using V5R3.

I realize that this kind of defeats the purpose of using XML but this is
the way it's going to be for now.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this ... I don't think having an XML
file map to multiple physical files is any different that having a CSV or
any other kind of input file map to multiple PFs.

I have zero XML expierence and I am basically looking for a place to
start.

I notice that you are a 'development programmer'. Given that, I'd suggest
using RPG. Since you are at V5R3, you won't be able to use the built in
XML handling of RPG at V5R4 (though it may be a good enough reason to
upgrade if you are planning to do a large amount of XML processing in
future). Scott Klement ported the open source project Expat XML parser to
i5/OS (see http://www.scottklement.com/expat/). It is pretty
straightforward to use with RPG code, and Scott's port includes quite a
few examples. I'd recommend checking out all of the examples before you
start, as you can probably combine some of the different techniques more
effectively that way.

Hope this helps,
Adam
