While Rick and Keith are correct that it's often, maybe even usually, ok to just remove the FREE, it's a good idea to try to understand why it was coded. There are some cases where the application really does depend on the FREE.

Of all the FREE opcodes ever coded, it's probably true that a large proportion can just be ignored. But for a given application, it may be the case that all the FREE opcodes are important for one reason or the other.
