If you're doing I/O to the physical, you can only do it to one member at a time.

You could however, create a logical that would give you access to all members
at once using the
DTAMBRS(*ALL) parameter of the CRTLF command.

But, you say the program is reading the record, so the multi-members isn't the
issue, but you don't
see the update to the file.

Are you running under commitment control and forgot to issue the commit?

RPG buffers I/O in some cases. Are you by chance doing sequential reads
followed by an update and are
returning from the program with LF = *OFF?

To see if RPG's buffering is the issue, try using the FEOD(N) opcode after the
update.

Charles

Subject: File with members update problem

I can't understand why something is happening. A physical
file has many members. When I read I am only reading one
member. We have a case where if a particular sequence number
is different than the one previous within the acct/inv. then
we want to put this record on hold.

I have seen that the program puts the "H" in the status
field, updates the format. But after program ends, the status
has not changed.

Is this connected to their being many members in the file?

TIA,
Mike
