I take it seriously ... Because it was a serious question...

Be that as it may...it's better to give an appropriate answer than an
inappropriate one. As Patty said below "This is an RPG list", so...the
question boils down to why RPG instead of COBOL (at least in my demented
mind). Personally I think this IS the right place for this question...i
highly doubt the COBOL list would a) like the question over-all, b) be
more inclined to give a COBOL 'til death!! Answer or c) just not even
respond at all.

<minor rant *ON>
I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has used both languages...so why
not share you're experiences instead of bashing??
</minor rant *OFF>

Thanks,
Tommy Holden

I don't see why anyone is taking this question seriously.

If someone has to ask if they should advise their "clients" about a very
expensive course of action in a mailing list, they don't deserve an
answer
or clients.

I expected one reply atleast like this. But I would like to get an
expert opinion from RPG specialists here. So I cannot post this in
COBOL mailing list.

Hello all,

Where does COBOL and C stands when compare to RPG. I see more
discussions
on RPG. Do you think we need to suggest our clients to convert from
COBOL
to RPG?

Subject: Validate Data library name

Hi

I have a program wherein the user enters the data library name on the
screen, and the company name. Now I first need to validate if the
library is

a valid AS400 library and if yes then i need to validate the company
number
from the company master file present in that data library.
Any suggestions on how this can be handled??

Thanks in advance
Derek
