The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Well I know several people (myself included) that bypass the index bytes
by using %SUBST ... Mydata = %subst(myvaryfld:3:x)
I'm not trying to be argumentative, Tommy, but that actually isn't correct.
%SUBST(MYVARYFLD:1:1) gives you the first data character of the varying
field. %SUBST automagically skips the prefix.
You might be thinking of %ADDR(MYVARYFLD), which if I'm not mistaken DOES
give you the address of the prefix rather than the field (much the same way
that %SIZE gives you the size of the field plus the prefix bytes).
