To be honest, I don't know the answer to that. I'm still learning how to deal
with the PC world myself, as my background is in Mainframe, AS/400, Unix, and
embedded systems.
We do talk to just about any database out there, and I have personally used
both DB/2 and SQL Server with the compiler. Most database's do support record
locks, so you can do it the traditional way. And the better database systems,
like DB/2 support optimistic record locking.
You are right, it is an interesting subject. I'll pass this question along and
see what kind of answers we get. :)
