If there is a difference one way or the other, it would be tiny. I
can't think of anything that would cause the cycle to be particularly
slower or faster than a roll-your-own loop. As you say, most of the
time is going to be spent doing the I/O which is independent of the code
that leads up to the I/O operations.
In Google Maps, you can get driving directions from New York to Paris.
I don't think it really makes much difference how you get from Chambers
St to Long Wharf.
