Another reason will have to do with the ability to recruit staff in the
future. Experienced staff will want to at least be current on technology.
A company that isn't interested in keeping it's staff current with
technology isn't willing to invest in it's own future. Who wants to stay
with a company that has a limited future. Younger programming staff won't
understand the old style code, if they've only worked in /free style
(Written by an old coder who still hasn't changed).

For example, how many managers/salesmen will the company attract if they
give them a 1985 car that's had 5 engine/transmission replacements?
Telling them it goes faster on less fuel won't hide the fact that its
_old_.
