Rob,

I've always liked the way it works in PL/I:

Either this (same as RPG):

SELECT;

WHEN (expression) DO;
END;

WHEN (expression) DO;
END;

END;

or this:

SELECT(operand-1)

WHEN (operand-2) DO;
END;

WHEN (operand-2) DO;
END;

END;

where a WHEN statement will be processed when (operand-1 = operand-2)
evaluates to boolean TRUE. Operand-2 could even be a list of items, which
are OR-ed against Operand-1, thus allowing you to have code like this:

SELECT(FILE_STATUS);
WHEN('A','B','C') CALL PROCESS_FILE(FILE_STATUS); /* If A, B or C, use
file status */
WHEN('X','Y','Z') CALL PROCESS_FILE('X'); /* Treat X, Y or Z as X */
OTHERWISE CALL PROCESS_FILE('N'); /* Use dummy NOP code */
END;

Much like SQL can do two forms of CASE;
case myfield;
When 'fubar'
...
When 'ok'
...

or
case
when myfield='fubar'
...
When myfield='ok'
...

I'd like to see RPGLE be able to support two forms of the select statement
Select MySubprocedure();
When 'abort';
//...
When 'ok';
//...
Other;
//...
EndSl;

Along with
Select;
When MySubprocedure()='abort';
// ...
When MySubprocedure()='ok';
//...
Other;
//...
EndSL;
