I wonder if he has in mind specifying a list of allowed values in the command source itself. Up to 300 can be specified and I believe they will all show up with an F4 prompt for the parameter.

The other option may be to only have the command executed from within a HLL program (like RPGLE) that calls the QCAPCMD api. QCAPCMD is like QCMDCHK, QCMDEXC, system() and a host of others - all on steroids. Check it out. We use it for a program that verifies a command to be stored in a file for use by a menu system, and, also a file of commands to execute at strategic points in our backup like: - What commands would you like to execute after we quiesced all applications, performed the backups and prior to opening up the applications again? - What commands would you like to execute after we quiesced all applications, performed the backups and after opening up the applications again?
