Lim, Given that your original message talked about performance being critical and there being millions of records, it would seem that speed isn't really much of an issue after all - just in testing, you've done this conversion 10 million times and it's only added between 8 and 12 seconds to the overall processing time... Does a few *seconds* either way make much of a difference - I could see it maybe mattering on an interactive application, but I'm guessing (hoping, really) that you're not processing this many records on a regular basis in an interactive application anyway!
