Bruce Hoffman is covering this topic at RPG World in May, but from what I saw in
his pitch, (if memory serves) it is something like this:

 /free 

   // your normal freeformat stuff.

     Exec-sql;
         Your SQL statements. End with a semicolon.

  // done.

No /end-exec from what I remember.
I think the way it works is that EXEC-SQL starts embedded SQL and you follow it
with your SQL statement. Terminate them with a semicolon. 

I'll ask Bruce to respond if he has time.

I have searched the infocenter for V5R4 and the only examples that I can find
