Bob - thanks for your replies. Unfortunately I can process both of the following SQL statements 1/. select * from File where FieldA = ' ' There is no problem and then I try 2/. select * from File where (FieldA <> ' ' and FieldB = DEC(FieldA)) There is no problem. I understand with you saying that there are records with other than spaces or numerics in FieldA, but my question then is why does 2/. work There is a problem with the combination select * from File where (FieldA = ' ' or (FieldA <> ' ' and FieldB = DEC(FieldA))) Alan Shore NBTY, Inc (631) 244-2000 ext. 5019 AShore@xxxxxxxx rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote on 02/05/2007 05:04:25 PM:
I addition to my other email, If i change the character field I try to process the DEC over to one I know has a some non numeric values in a few
records I get the same error you did. You need to solve the numeric only part of query to get this to work. I'm not sure how to do that myself. -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing
