What does the *INIT at PGM ALDAT indicate?

It indicates your program is in the initialisation phase. The compiler generates code to allocate and initialise variables and this runs during the *INIT phase. It also includes the functions of the *INZSR if you coded one.

*INIT is just one of the phases of program execution. Others include:
        *DETL
        *GETIN
        *TOTC
        *TOTL
        *DETC
        *OFL
        *TERM

Unless you have coded NOMAIN these will exist in your program even if you're not using the cycle (although in that case the only ones you are likely to see will be *INIT and *TERM).

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
