You can use *LIKE DEFINE, or define it on the C-spec where it is used as
a result field.

C       *LIKE           DEFINE  Patterned on field      newfield

C       FIELD1  ADD       1                             NEWFIELD

I have to modify an RPG III program, and need to add a
variable and if memory serves me correctly I cannot just add
a d type to an RPG III program..would someone clarify this
