Good point. I use freeform RPG and haven't used an indicator since I can't remember when. If I have a report program to write I use the cycle and level breaks. Nothing could be easier, or more modern looking, or simpler to maintain and enhance.
Yes, you have to go fixed form briefly for total calcs ("CL1" stuff), but Doug Handy had the definite way of handling that, posted to one of these lists about a year ago.
