I started programming in rpg on the System/3 in 1974. Have been a consultant since 1977. (Ok - at work I'm known as the History Channel).
At
that time the cycle was a godsend. As time went by it became less and
less
relevant - except for report writing. For report writing it was the
best,
and as far as I can tell, remained the best until SQL data access became dominant.
In 1974, my dad was only 17. Still 4 years away from my birth year. :-) Happy Holidays. I may be young but I have seen these cycle programs. Once had to maintain one and I thought it was h3ll. Trying to follow the control level breaks was enough to take up my day. :-) But there have been times when I thought it would be neat to try and write a report using the input primary, I've yet to do it though.
