1. What error are you getting? I mean, one potential error from QSZCRTPL
is:

CPF3C29 E Object name &1 is not valid.

But that's not exactly "invalid object *N". So, how about a msgid? Any
other joblog hint?

You're right. When I try running the program, this is what I get:

 Message ID . . . . . . : CPF3C29
Date sent . . . . . . : 11/29/06 Time sent . . . . . . : 12:07:16

 Message . . . . : Object name *N is not valid.

Cause . . . . . : The object name contains characters that are not valid in
   a name.
Recovery . . . : Specify a valid value for the object name, and try the
request again. The name must be upper-case, alphanumeric characters, and
padded with blanks. More information on names can be found in the CL
Reference topic in the Information Center book,
   http://www.ibm.com/eserver/iseries/infocenter.

The only other bit of information in the job log is a CPC2206 ("Ownership of object FOO in BAR type *PRDDFN changed.")

Here are the parameters I'm passing:

CRTPRD PRDDFN(BAR/FOO) PRODID(0DBF001) RLS(V5R2M0) MSGF(QCPFMSG)
  FRSTCPY(*CURRENT) CURCPY(*CURRENT) RLSDATE(061129) REGID(6154535146)
  RLSCENT(1) OPTCOUNT(1) LANGID(2924) DESC('i like foo')
  DEVLIB(BAR) MSGID(CPF0000) CODELOADID(5001)

Tommy Holden (the OP) did provide some additional information in the System iNetwork forums at the following link:
http://www.systeminetwork.com/isnetforums/showthread.php?t=46455

I don't know how much help this is. I spent a little while (maybe 1/2 hour) earlier trying to figure out the documentation for the API, but ran out of time that I could spend on it. The documentation is terrible. The error message isn't very enlightening. I suppose that it's easy enough for someone who is familiar with the way that software products are built, but it's all new to me, and I'm a bit lost.
