Will FIXNBR(*ZONED) be sufficient?  Since you don't care about those fields,
whatever the runtime does will be fine with you as long as it doesn't halt
processing.

But it's not happening when our program tries to *use* the
fields (in fact, some of those fields get ignored by our
program), but when the record is read.
