Where substr(bdgxx,5,1) <> 'A'
  and substr(bdgxx,5,1) <> 'B'
  and substr(bdgxx,5,1) <> 'C'
  and ....


If you can stick them in a file somewhere, then you could do:

Select bdgxx, recno

From file

Where substr(bdgxx,5,1) not in ( select goodValue from somefile)

I have a file in which BDGXX is a field. Another field is RECNO.
I need to create a report when 5th position of BDGXX is not 
equal to A 
,B,C,D,E....
My report is some thing like
select BDGXX,RECNO FROM FILE  WHEN 5TH POSITION OF BDGXX NOT EQUAL TO 
(A,B,C,D,E)...
Please advise if you can let me know SQL version of solution.

Hi Joseph,

first, your are wasting code by moving blanks to
poo@#k. Eval is same as movel (P) move left and pad
with blanks. So the field will be clear on the eval
statement anyway.

simple validation:

Eval Poo@#k = %Subst(Bdgxx : 5 : 1)

If %Check('ABCDE' : Poo@#k) > 0
// then not found
Else
// found
Endif
