I should have mentioned that the field is a DBCS and you can't do a SST
in a logical file.

Is it possible to create an index on part of a field?

Ex:  CREATE INDEX STATICF82/ESPIX ON STATICF82/ESP substr(PRKEY,36,8)

That doesn't work, but is there some methond that would?
