the os/2 experience is relevant because we need to know what IBM mgmt will do when it can no longer make a profit selling i5/os to its locked in customers. Will it go the os/2 route and continue to "support" it while keeping it locked up, or will it release it to the open source community.
I believe we've been down this road already. The development tools for RPG, DDS, etc. don't run on PC hardware. What good is the source if there's no compiler for it? That's the entire RPG problem in a nutshell. We can easily move our RPG source to a PC but we cannot compile it. That's why there's so little open source iSeries stuff. Especially, iSeries system stuff.
