There are plenty of 3rd party products that will enable you to send
email from your AS\400, iSeries, i5. I don't know much about any of
them. 
If you want to send emails from RPG and plan on doing the coding you
should look at the QTMMSENDMAIL API. As far as I know many 3rd party
vendors use this API with their software. Using the Api isn't terribly
difficult, but you need to know how to create a MIME file. 

There is a free utility/library called MMAIL that allows you to create
and mail MIME files. This product uses the QtmmsendMail API.
JavaMail is also an option.
SNDDST is also an option.

I'd search the midrange.com archives and Google to get more information
about any of the options I listed.
