I think the second parameter cannot be a variable since '*ISO' is not the same as *ISO *ISO is a valid date format, '*ISO' is a character value.... Most likely you're stuck with using select or if/else logic Select; When InType = '*ISO'; mydate = %Date(inDate : *ISO); When InType = '*MDY'; mydate = %Date(inDate : *MDY); // yada yada Thanks, Tommy Holden -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of AGlauser@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, August 01, 2006 3:30 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: %date() parameter confusion Hi all, I found the following in the (WDSc help) documentation for the %date() BIF: "The second parameter is the date format for character or numeric input. Regardless of the input format, the output is returned in *ISO format." So, I tried doing this: %date( inDate : inType); (where inType is a 4A field) to convert a given 6,0 numeric field (passed from another program) to *ISO, based on the type (also passed by the caller). The result was the compile error: *RNF0606 .... The second parameter for %DATE is not valid. Is this a problem with the definition of the 'inType' field, or did the documentation fail to mention that the second parameter must be known at compile time?
