Really going back to some ancient history on this thread but...

Is defining the file with DDL instead of DDS and using a identity column a 
possibility?  If not an identity column, then perhaps a sequence object? 
We spent a lot of time arguing how to code a bunch of this when the system 
will do it all for you if you let it.
