How to get the list of files through FTP

Hi
I am trying to read a Physical file through RPG. That Physical file
needs to have the list of the files from a folder in a different server.
I am trying to get the list through FTP. I know that I could do it by
receiving the list in LSOUTPUT file by the following FTP command
LS   *.*  (DISK

But, I don't want to receive in LSOUTPUT file. I want to specify my own
file. I tried following two, but none of them worked. 

LS   *.*  >  mylib/myfile  
LS   *.*  |  mylib/myfile

Could any body help please?
