And if you know the record you want to position to, use the POSDBF command
rather than OPNQRYF. It may work a bit better for you.

And it just so happens that I was already using a CL 
"leader" program, so putting the OVRDBF in there was 
absurdly simple. And it does indeed work, and quite well.
