D DS D num30 1 3 0 D Char3 1 3 You mean something like this? Michael Schutte "Wilt, Charles" <CWilt@xxxxxxxxxx om> To Sent by: "RPG programming on the AS400 / rpg400-l-bounces@ iSeries" <rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> midrange.com cc Subject 04/19/2006 11:11 Easy way to define a DS char AM subfield the same size as some numericfield? Please respond to RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <rpg400-l@midrang e.com> All, I've got a standalone field defined as packed(3,0). Is there an easy way to define a DS subfiled as char(3)? In other words, given any specific numeric field, how can a define a corresponding character field large enough to hold the numeric data without having to hardcode the subfield size? The DS is used to send out an email message. If there isn't an easy way to do what I want, I'll just get rid of the DS altogether and use eval + some bifs to build the message. That may be a better option, but for instructional purposes, I would like to show a DS without hard coded sizes.
