That's what I have been trying but I cannot find good documentation, and
from basic documentation it seems like its only for Java type development.

I believe Subversion has been ported to the ISeries by SoftLanding (who 
also sell a change management solution based on Subversion).  See 
http://www.softlanding.com/subversion/index.htm.  I haven't tried it out 
yet, but I'm hoping to try using it in the near future.  There are also 
some good Subversion plugins for Eclipse/WDSC from what I understand.
