You can use display files in SQLRPGLE. However, you cannot run a SQL over
the display file.  For instance...

  Select * From Display1

I believe it will compile, it just won't collect any information.

Put you can

Dow not *InKC;
   exfmt Display1;
   If *inkc;
     leave;
   endif;
   exsr edit#;
   if anyerrors;
      iter;
   endif;
   exsr performSQL#;
endDo;

This code is valid in a SQLRPGLE.

Michael is correct. You will need a separate program to prompt for the
value or you can use a display file inline to your CL program because
the SQLRPGLE source type won't accommodate a display file and I/O from
that file (as far as I know).

There are plenty of examples of using a CL to prompt for and pass the
value. As an alternative you could just front end the program with a
command prompt but that would give you only a limited set of editing
options.

Several ways to skin the cat (no offense to PETA....) You may want to
look at using a display file within a CL program first.
