I don't think you're missing anything, Jon. I think this is exactly what James was asking; can he just redefine the field. My point, though, is that if the RPG program is receiving Unicode data, define the parameter as Unicode. Or, if the data is raw binary bytes, define it as an array of bytes (3u0). Specifically defining the type of data expected can only help to document the procedure. Joe
