A jar file is a collection of class files and other resources that are used by a java application that are bound at runtime. A service program is a collection of modules, which contain one or more HLL procedures, that are bound at runtime. A jar file can contain a complete application ... including all the static resources it needs. A service program can only be used by another ILE program (*PGM) on the iSeries. I usually equate service programs to windows DLL's or unix shared libraries. david
