It depends.

If you use the traditional way of accessing data via the F specs then
yes need to recompile for at least all physicals and all logicals that
include all fields.

However you can avoid recompiling by using level check *NO.  Personally
I don't recommend this as it will cause some havic with data utilities.

If you use SQL then all you need to do is test your programs to see if
their behaviour remains the same as before.   If the program behaves
differently then you need to modify and recompile.
