>> It's SAA RPG which is effectively RPG II. I think Simon meant RPG III. The SAA compiler spec was based on RPG/400 _but_ is naturally a lowest common denominator version. E.g. It accesses conventional VSAM/ISAM files as program described (no external descriptions) and similarly has no built-in support for printer or display files. If I recall correctly it will work with ISPF and can embed SQL. Can't recall if CICS is supported. It was a complete rewrite in C and our friend Hans Bolt was the lead developer before he moved to the RPG IV development team. In fact it was this SAA compiler that was the base for the RPG IV compiler - not the old RPG/400 compiler which was written in PL/MI. And you thought SAA was good for nothing <grin> I thought it had been withdrawn form marketing but may still be out there in PRPQ form. A word of warning. There is another version of RPG on mainframes that dates back to RPG I - this is _far_ more common as only a few licenses of SAA RPG were ever sold. So it may be that this is what they have in mind. You might also want to consider using VARPG to generate Java and run that on the mainframe! Or if there's enough money, look at RIO or one of the other conversion tools.
