I saw that discussion in the archives, but didn't understand the MX records
must be checked first.  

So I guess the process should be:
Check for MX records.

If they exist, compare the domain to the list.

If they don't exist, check the "A" record returned by the GetHostByName
function.

Correct?

exists you use it. If no A record exists then you're toast.
